Beuvron-en-Auge

Just 10 minutes from the gîte, Beuvron-en-Auge is officially listed among France’s “Most Beautiful Villages” — and the title is well deserved. Its 16th and 17th-century half-timbered houses, painted in warm shades of brown and ochre, cluster around a covered market hall that gives the village its timeless character. Life here moves at an entirely different pace, deep in the Norman bocage.

Beuvron is also a must for food and drink lovers. Local producers sell cider, pear cider and Calvados, alongside aged cheeses and salted caramel treats. The Cider Route, which winds through Beuvron, links the surrounding farms and cider houses in a delightful loop that works equally well by bicycle or by car.

As you stroll through the lanes, look out for the craftsmen’s workshops and small shops tucked beneath ancient beams. On Sunday mornings, a local market fills the hall — the perfect opportunity to pick up fresh produce for a true Norman lunch back at the gîte.

Beuvron-en-Auge is particularly photogenic in autumn, when the apple orchards of the Pays d’Auge turn golden and the warm light catches the timber frames. Allow 1 to 2 hours, more if you stop for lunch or follow the Cider Route.
